Here in the Valley of the Sun, we do whatever we can to stay cool when summer hits. That means lots of time in the pool, trips to the lake and for many Phoenix area residents, a visit to their backyard splash pad.
Everyone knows how much kids love playing at the public splash pads. Imagine how great it would be to step out your back door and be just a few steps away from your own private splash pad that you helped design. That’s exactly what 3 families around town have done just this past month.
In Glendale, one family decided to take their existing swimming pool to a whole new level by adding an adjoining splash pad. Complete with 12 ground sprays, an above ground Water Mushroom feature and 4 LED light kit, this splash pad gives its neighboring pool some serious competition for fun!
A pool tie-in splash pad can often be completed using the existing pool pump and filtering system so that both the pool and splash pad share the same water. It’s great for the smaller kids who aren’t ready for the pool yet and turns into a fantastic water feature at night when the sun goes down and the lights come on.
Our family in Queen Creek decided to go all out and install a 400 square foot splash pad just steps from the back patio. This splash pad has 3 above ground features – a Water Mushroom, Dumping Buckets and Flower Shower. It also has 16 different ground nozzles set on a controller to go off at random times to add to the show and excitement. The family went with a 6 LED light kit so the kids can enjoy playing on the splash pad both during the day and at night.
A 400 square foot residential splash pad is pretty big! The homeowners were looking to accommodate their younger children and a couple of special needs foster kids as well. They opted for a larger and safer splash pad rather than a swimming pool.
The third residential splash pad in the works this month is being built in North Mesa. It’s 150 square feet and packed with 8 ground sprays and 6 LED lights! We are also installing a footing base that can house an above ground feature down the road. This is a popular option for people who want to start out small and then grow their splash pad over the years. For now, that footing base is covered with a plate that acts as another ground feature.
The nice thing about this smaller splash pad is that it is adjacent to the back yard patio and just outside the kitchen window. This allows the mother to let her children play in the splash pad while keeping cool under the patio or watching through the window.
